Introducing the NAF Ethics Committee

Attention, coaches! Blood Bowl’s recent resurgence has brought new life and ever larger crowds to the game, but a few issues have accompanied that growth. Whereas player conduct was very rarely a problem over the NAF’s first 15 years, we are now called on to arbitrate conflicts between members with some regularity. To some extent, this is just part of human nature, and no different from what other prominent tabletop games experience, but the NAF Committee does feel that it requires a response on the part of the organization.

This is where you come in. We are looking for qualified volunteers to serve on a NAF Board of Ethics. This board’s primary task will be to review and formalize the NAF’s admittedly vague code of conduct, after which they will serve as a disciplinary committee. In theory, the board could also eventually advise on more open-ended issues such as inclusion and outreach policies. If appointed, ethics board members shall:

  • review and where necessary revise and the existing code of conduct, ethical policies and ethical procedures
  • advise committee members and staff and NAF members where an ethical violation has occurred and may need disciplinary guidance
  • investigate, research, and coordinate the resolution of potential ethics violations
  • hear and rule on appeals by members that have received disciplinary action by the Committee
  • provide updates to the NAF President on any outstanding ruling and appeals
  • educate members and provide TOs with support to increase attraction for diversity and inclusion opportunities, including ways to increase attendance of underrepresented coaches from various race, gender, and age groups.

Any NAF member who is interested in volunteering for this board should submit a 250-500 word essay stating their qualifications and reasons for seeking the position. A follow-up interview or Q&A may be requested by the NAF Committee. The NAF Committee will then review the candidates and select qualified individuals to form the NAF Ethics Board. Legal or human resource experience would probably be helpful, but we also hope to select a team with multiple race, gender, and age groups represented if at all possible. Essays should be submitted to officialnaf@gmail.com. This requisition will remain open until filled.

  1. With the explosion of the community in the last 7-10 years… we are reaching a point where this is probably a very wise move. Thank you.
