Gran Torneo de Mexico Tournament Champion Q&A

We continue our mini series were we ask Tournament Champions what we think are some of the all important questions with Blood Bowl in the newest edition!

After getting some insight into Finnish Blood Bowl and the True Open 3 from Marc Andreu Simola (NAF ID: lotharhans) we went over to Mexico to talk with Charles Nedelec (NAF ID: CharlesNedelec). Charles recently claimed the title of Champion for the Gran Torneo de Mexico. Recently, Charles got back into the tournament scene and has been having a great time with his friends in the Federacion Mexicana de Blood Bowl!

Q: How long have you played Blood Bowl?
A: I played Blood Bowl for the first time when I was 14 years old in France. And then I rediscovered the game in Mexico 20 years after ! Now I play regularly with my FMBB mates (Federacion Mexicana de Blood Bowl) for 4 years.

Q: What made you make the decision to take the winning race to the event? Did you do any research, practice or preparation before the tournament?
A: Not at all. Just some thoughts to best optimize my roster, but not much. I play for fun. It´s just a good opportunity to see friends and drink beers (a lot).

Q: Now that you’ve won do you feel like your priorities will change with team race selection in upcoming tournaments?
A: I like to change teams for every tournament and league we do. I tried them all !!! And even if they are not the best, I always come back to Humans to have the pleasure to play with Griff. Such a great player (ST 4 & AG 4 is a killer) and it reminds me my old time when I discovered the game.

Q: Care to share any secrets to your winning strategy/roster choices?
A: Drink beer. Have fun. Take it easy. It helps a lot.

Q: What is your advice to newcomers and/or experienced coaches of Blood Bowl, particularly the ones transitioning to the Blood Bowl Second Season tournament scene?
A: Same applies. Drink beer. Have fun. Take it easy.

Q: What are your next steps? Any upcoming tournaments you plan to attend?
A: I hope we will have a biiiiig and loooong league with plenty of teams for the second half of the year. And why not another tournament in Mexico City or somewhere else. We´ll see.

Q: Do you have any final thoughts/comments on how the current Blood Bowl Second Season edition of rules may change the tournament scene?
A: I have not played enough the Second Edition to say. I´m just a bit concerned the new “pass” characteristics will slow the game and give advantage to the bashing teams. But not sure, need to play more and see.

Thank you so much Charles for these great thoughts! Everyone should follow the Drink Beer. Have fun. Take it easy. motto that Charles uses! We all want to congratulate you on your success in Blood Bowl and good luck in your future tournament events!

Stay tuned next week as we catch up with David Glenister (NAF ID: bsking), BBQ Bowl 2021 tournament champion from United Kingdom who recently won with Orcs! Waaaagh!!!
