March Minutes
NAF Committee Meeting of 28 March, 2021
Attending: President Nate, VP James, TD Andrea, Treasurer Paul, MD Massimo, LD Ant
Apologies: None

  • LD Election
Congratulations to Ant on his re-election to the position of League Director, committee is very happy to have his calm considered opinions back on deck.

  • Accounts
Paul has finished the accounts. More detail to follow, however as a general guide, cash flow is looking ok. Have paid for dice and tokens. Shift in membership in the last year as less face to face sign ups possible so there has been more expenditure on shipping. Looking to maintain a working capital of $10,000 before considering future project funding.

  • Online Report
Andrea reports that he is moving to implement an online schedule for NAF tournaments across both platforms. FUMBBL and BB2. Committee has approved the elevation of online coordinators to tournament organizer rights on the website to better control the data entry.

  •  NAF World Cup V
Committee buoyed by multiple expressions of interest from a number of potential bids. Discussed concern with bids needing to plan for safety measures, backup plans, potential insurance policies in the current pandemic climate. There may be a reasonable expectation that entry fees may need to be forfeited by attendees if the tournament is forced to be cancelled or postponed. Reaffirmed the NAF position that we cannot bail out organisers with NAF funds. All prospective bids need to plan accordingly to ensure they do not risk running at a loss. It is still the committees wish to hold the tournament in 2023. Bids at this stage will be asked for in December. Andrea is going to spearhead with assistance from the committee a bid document for prospective World Cup organizing groups, with expectations for those bids. Has set a deadline for this bid document as July, however all are in agreement that we will push to try an ensure the document comes out as soon as possible to assist these bids.

  • TD Report
Very few requests for tournaments at this stage. Taking advantage of online opportunities. New Zealand and Australian communities seem to be returning to some degree of tournament normalcy.

  • President Report                                                                                                                                     2 new NTDs in Mexico. Query about our current gift stocks. Massimo reports that they are currently 0 but about to be 1000.

  • Tournament Series                                                                                                                           Nate has asked the committee to reconsider the state of the tournament series. Considering putting it on hold, however we have received renewed interest in the program moving forward. Have received informal offer from a 3rd party company to produce a tournament series badge. Waiting on proofs for the committee to consider.

  • League Director Report                                                                                                              Nothing to add. Massimo mentioned the webmaster of his league has developed software for the new ruleset. Questioned whether there was capacity to incorporate this into the OBBLM development plans?

Paul & Ant depart

  • GW News
GW to release 7s rules. Requirements for the committee to engage members to rewrite the NAF Variant rulesets to BB2020 seemingly not necessary. Will evaluate the GW rules releases, if other variants are slow to come out, we will mirror the style of the GW rules to work with those rulesets.

  • Dornbirn Results
There have been requests from the membership for the NAF to host the results from the last world cup. Andrea has the file and we will be looking to get the PDFs up and available for our members.

  •  Membership Director Report
Massimo reports a backlog of about 2 months with the gifts as he has run out of stock and was waiting on the new gifts. Will engage RTOs to advise how many gifts they need. Also still looking for another European shipper to take pressure off Massimo. Being a volunteer thing, we are having some distribution issues that is a cause for frustration amongst the members. Will we reach a point where we need to consider paying a company to handle distribution? Massimo has sent out gifts for February signups, there were 100-120 gifts he personally sent out in February along with 114 in January. Needs help.

Next Meeting – Tentative 2nd or 16th May at this stage
