Annual Review Paused – New Edition?

Dear members,

As I’m sure you are aware, over the last 24 hours, a number of leaked images showing what appears to be a new edition of Blood Bowl have been posted across the BB internet.

With this in mind, we have decided to pause our Annual Review process. The intent of the Annual Review is to increase stability and reduce confusion for our membership, and if we had completed our 2020 process only for a new edition to then arrive, we would only have contributed to confusion.

The Annual Review will restart if and when we are aware of what this new edition will bring, probably with a different schedule to usual. Until then, we appreciate your patience. We understand that these events will generate all manner of opinion and debate, and we will keep you updated as to what any change means for NAF tournaments as things develop.

Thanks,

Phil / Purplegoo.

  1. I am always so surprised to discover that GW does not involve the NAF representatives in the process of testing new rules…

It is obviously the case as you are as surprised as we are about this leak (which means that all rulebooks in different languages are already finished, printed and … full of errors as usual with GW).

Let’s wait for the first erratum, then the second …. and then the free pdf release when they realize that so many errata are not manageable lol.

  2. There may not be a huge reason for concern: unlike Wizards of the Coast, which keeps a deathgrip on tournaments for its games, GW has little to no relationship with organizing events and so NAF is free to apply or not apply any rules changes from the new edition. I only bring this up b/c those changes seem substantial: in the Warhammer Community post from this morning mentioning the new edition, it is specified that *passing rules* will be changed. Adding ‘runt punters’ to Ogre teams in Spike! Magazine wasn’t a big deal, though the recent addition of the Old World Alliance team might have a major effect should tournaments allow it. But changing the passing rules is a thunderclap in the dark. I say “in the dark” because many of us are still living in parts of the world that have a Covid-19 related tournament hiatus, so it’s looking like when we come back to the tournament circuit, there will be huge changes. I, for one, hope that NAF’s annual review process will take the worldwide circumstances into account and hold off on changing our rules until the following year.

    1. Yeah- it looks like there will be substantial enough changes that I’m not sure the NAF is going to get on board right away.

I’m interested to see how it rolls out, though.

  3. What of the rumored that some old teams might not get updated officially. Will the NAF make updated lists for them?

    1. Hi there. We will deal with the new ed when it arrives, rather than comment on / make policy on rumours. Let’s wait and see!

      1. That seems like a good policy. Personally, I’m really hoping that some aspects of the rumors turn out to be completely incorrect.
