Tournaments After Covid-19

Dear members,

As the Covid-19 situation continues to develop, we are increasingly being asked questions about the resumption of NAF sanctioned, tabletop tournaments. This article covers the most frequently asked of those questions, but if you feel something important has not been covered, please post in the comments section below and we will add your question to the list.

If face to face Blood Bowl isn’t allowed or available where you are yet, please keep safe until it is.

Q: When can I start scheduling tournaments again?

A: When your local authorities allow. The pandemic, and our recovery from the pandemic, is progressing at different rates in different regions, and some areas will allow gatherings like Blood Bowl tournaments before others.

Q: Do I need to take any special precautions?

A: As we come out of Covid, Blood Bowl tournaments might look quite different for a while. If your local advice it to restrict the number of people at gatherings, to only gather outside or to wear a face mask in public (as examples), please take these precautions seriously and advise coaches at your tournaments accordingly. Follow local regulations.

Q: My local venue is opening very shortly and we’re very keen to get going again. Must I give the usual 8 weeks notice?

A: Please use common sense. If you would like to very quickly organise a tournament for four weeks hence, so long as you can advertise it properly and it’s clearly open to all, we’re very likely to approve it.

Q: We’re not ready where I am, yet! I would like to cancel or rearrange my tournament due to Covid. Can I?

A: If you need to cancel your tournament, you don’t need to inform the NAF (but please, advertise the cancellation where would-be attendees can see it!). If you need to rearrange for a date later in 2020 / in 2021, please inform the TD (Purplegoo) via the NAF site.

Q: Rearranging my tournament is difficult, as my local tournament calendar is congested. What do I do, here?

A: For the rest of 2020, we will be relaxing the rules around tournament proximity. This isn’t to say that you should not pay any attention to tournaments already in the calendar, but in the near future, we will not be directly intervening to prevent clashes as we normally would, so that tournaments that have been postponed can more easily find a home. It is a great idea to talk to your local NAF staff and other organisers when rearranging your tournament and to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement to best serve your local community.

Q: I’m not ready to play face to face Blood Bowl / Face to face Blood Bowl is a while off where I am. What else does the NAF do for me?

A: We have been running very successful NAF Live tournaments throughout the pandemic (see details of the next tournament here), and the next Online NAF (one game per week) tournament is to be announced shortly. We are also working on bringing members BB2 tournaments, but we aren’t there yet. Online is no substitute for the real thing, but it’s keeping many members busy for now! Remember: only online tournaments that are run by the NAF can be sanctioned in the NAF database.
