Tournament Spotlight Series #1

Until the day when I am a carefree jet-setter traveling the globe to attend various Blood Bowl tournaments, I will have to be content to live my Blood Bowl life vicariously through others and the events that they attend in addition to the few local tournaments I’m able to get to each year.

Welcome to a new spotlight series which focuses on various Tournaments held around the world that you either can’t get to or have never heard of. It’s a big community that we have (growing every day) so there are probably dozens of unique events, each with their own rules and flavor, that we can explore right here (until you’re able to make a road trip that is).

The first Blood Bowl event that I would like to shine the spotlight on is one that’s been on my bucket list since I got back into the game …

Coming up on March 12th and March 13th in Norman Oklahoma are the premiere Blood Bowl events in the Southern part of the United States, Orclahoma Bowl and Spiky Cup.
These tournaments, run by Steve and Scott of Both Down Podcast fame, have been getting bigger and better each year and this year they’ve gone all out for their fifth anniversary.
The biggest draw to these tournaments is the unusual aspect that they are indeed 2 very different tournaments. Orclahoma Bowl is on Saturday the 12th and Spiky Cup is on Sunday the 13th. Not only are the completely separate tournaments, their styles are different as well. Orclahoma Bowl is the prestigious and sublime event which has the basic build and basic rules with it. Spiky Cup is always wacky, wild and just a great opportunity to bash people around!
Since this is the 5th anniversary, Steve and Scott have pull out all the stops and are trying to get 50 people to attend. While a high goal, they have done everything they can to make sure it gets there. In addition to the great atmosphere and incredible word of mouth, they are giving away an insane amount of SWAG in addition to crazy sponsorship prizes.

For just your paid entry, each person gets 2 sets of dice for each tournament(if paid in advance), a very nice metal coin designed to commemorate the tournaments, an awesome Cromnard Dung figure (Crom is the creation of Zlurpcast, but has been featured as a star player at Orclahoma Bowl) and a brand new concept to Blood Bowl, a Kick Off/D3 die! This die has 3 Orc heads and 3 Goblin heads, so instead of flipping a coin, you can just call Orcs or Goblins! In addition, it functions as a D3 for kick off results.

In addtion to the incredible giveaway SWAG, the prizes from Sponsors has been outstanding(and is still incoming). So far, they have over $1000 worth of prizes being given away by drawing. 2 fully painted teams give away by Steve and Scott (a GW High Elf team and an amazing Willy Halfling team), a Neomics Undead team, a Gaspez Vampire team, multiple figures from RN Estudio and Hungry Troll (Including the Bob figure), 120 euro in gift certificates from Greebo, figures from Impact, figures from Roll Jordan and Maki Games, giveaways from West Coast Quake, Chaos Cup and other tournaments and finally, 9 different carrying cases from KR Multicase including an amazing Backpack case!

By all accounts, this should be an amazing tournament and is drawing interest from all around the US and even from Canada! One final note of just the type of fun there will be; Bryan Tew, Chaos Cup champion and 3 time Orclahoma Bowl champion is attending and for fun, there will be a bounty on his head during Orclahoma Bowl. Anyone who defeats him will get a prize! What’s more Blood Bowl and awesome than real life bounties?

  1. Thanks for the writeup! I would also like to travel around the international Blood Bowl circus and take a shot at Orclahoma Bowl… Maybe someday, until then it’s always good to hear about the heroic deeds that happened at the tournaments!

May I suggest the Dungeon Bowl for the next spotlight as it is the first major this year and will have a fairly international attendance.

    Thanks!
