Variants

Blood Bowl is lucky to have a vibrant, creative community that has devised any number of variant rulesets. The NAF has developed and iterated versions of the most popular of these variants, most recently reviewing and updating the forms of Blood Bowl we sanctioned in 2019. At this time, the current version of the Blood Bowl rules was BB2016, which is now known as the ‘Classic’ variant. Sine then, variants such as Sevens and Dungeon Bowl have seen official publications by GW. Until newer rule versions of other variants have been published, TOs are encouraged to adhere to the spirit of the Classic ruleset at variant events.

We accept submissions and record results from tournaments using the following rulesets:

‘Specialist’ does not have a bespoke ruleset. This variant exists so the NAF can accept tournament rulesets that are too specialised to be sanctioned as Blood Bowl or in one of the above categories. Examples of rulesets that would qualify as Specialist include all Stunty tournaments or tournaments where house rules used are deemed too unbalancing to be otherwise sanctioned. See the NAF approval document for more details.

The French community has translated the above rulesets, you can find them here.

You can download several versions of the pitches used for Sevens and Street Bowl here:

There are far more Blood Bowl variants that have been created over the years, however only those included above are considered popular and robust enough for the NAF to sanction. A non-exhaustive list of other variants with accompanying links is included below. Perhaps one day in the future there will be NAF versions of these variants, but not quite yet!

Blood Bowl also has several community written sets of house rules, such as Narrow Tier Blood Bowl (NTBB), Stunty Leeg or Secret League, over on FUMBBL.
