Tournament Director Blog – Mar. 20

As you might expect this month, my blog is somewhat different to usual. Covid-19 arrived at what felt like lightning speed, and it has dominated everything for a little while now. Blood Bowl has been no different, and we’ve seen almost all March and April tournaments cancelled or postponed, all over the world.

While I don’t have much to report on this time, I thought it would be useful to put out a very short blog, mainly summarising the various NAF announcements and initiatives that have arrived over the last month. I’m sure most of you are across the below list, but it might be new news to someone out there. Finally, we have a tournament report-cum-advertisement describing happier times, as John / OptimusPrime describes a Greek tournament that took place last year.

I don’t plan on blogging again until we are comfortably on the other side of the virus. Between now and then, please keep yourselves and your loved ones safe, keep Blood Bowling with us online if you can manage it (see below), and if you have any NAF tournament questions or concerns, my PM / email inbox is always open. See you on the other side.

Phil.

Collected NAF Announcements / Initiatives

  • We are in the midst of a Treasurer election! See this post (when logged into the membership website) for all of the details, polls close on Sunday 29th March. In related news, our 2019 accounts are now live
  • Among the tournament cancellations and postponements caused by Covid-19, we have lost the first three majors of the year. The Dungeonbowl, the NAF Championship and the Eucalyptus Bowl 2020 have all fallen victim to circumstance, so if you were intending to travel to these events, please ensure you’re across all the TOs have to say in the relevant threads and announcements re: rescheduling or refunds, if applicable
  • We will not be approving tournaments submitted to us that are due to take place before the end of April. This policy will be constantly reviewed, as we support the need for social distancing across the world. See the news post for more information
  • Our first committee meeting with our new VP (James / Rabid_Bogscum) has been and gone, check out the minutes here. The state of the world right now may well mean that those actions take a little while longer to complete than we may have expected at the time of our meeting, but I think this is a good nod to the direction the committee are taking in the wake of the presidential election at the turn of the year
  • During Covid-19, we are stepping up the number of online tournaments that we are running to keep you all NAF Blood Bowling from home. Please see this post for all of the details! The Dungeonbowl Dust-Up is about to start as I post this, but there will be more if you missed the boat this time (watch this website!). FUMBBL is booming in general, and there are lots of helpful hints and tips around about how to import your league teams and finish those seasons that you started in the before time. Even if you aren’t joining us for NAF Live this weekend, you can dip in and out of commentary and general madness on the FUMBBL Discord server and Sann0638’s Facebook Live
  • Finally, please welcome our brand new Bolivian NTO to the NAF staff team. Roy / Royex_74 will look after this new NAF territory for us, and I’m looking forward to telling you more about Bolivian Blood Bowl as soon as I can learn more about it! I know that the world is becoming ever smaller with globalisation, but Bolivia still sounds incredibly exotic to me here in the UK

Tournament Report

Finally this month, some glorious escapism from the real world. In a time before Covid-19, John / OptimusPrime submitted the below report from a Greek event. I had asked about something in February initially, but he was so keen to talk about GREEKBOWL (traditionally a tournament that runs in June), I was happy to include his report / advertisement. Hopefully we can all get back to face to face Blood Bowl soon enough! I have to say, Greece in summer looks like a decent destination to me.

GREEKBOWL 2019

Although Greece had it’s Blood Bowl players and leagues for more than 20 years, things started to grow after the 2016 re-release! A re-acquaintance with NAF and with the help of various people around the globe, Greek players formed a steady community, attended Eurobowl and had their first National tournament!

This June, GREEKBOWL grows even bigger! With an increased experience brought back from Wales’ Eurobowl and the World Cup, and with an increasingly community, we set our standards a little highier! A new venue in view of the Acropolis, a unique miniature that is still in production, thematic gifts will help us make this tourney a must for sun and Sightseeing lovers from around the globe (we hope, that is)!

For those who are unfamiliar with our Tourney, GREEKBOWL is a team tournament composed of teams of 3 coaches, following standard Bloodbowl rules (Swiss, resurrection) and using the current Eurobowl / World Cup ruleset, this year is POLAND’s.

Feel free to ask any questions to OptimusPrime on the NAF forum, or Yannis Hatzopoulos on Facebook.
