FAQs

NAF Sanctioned Tournaments

NAF Sanctioned Tournaments

Question

Answer

Who do I contact if I want to run a tournament?

Contact your Regional Tournament Co-ordinator, or contact the Tournament Director if there is no RTC for your region.(see the Contact Us page for email addresses of our current RTCs).

I will be attending a NAF sanctioned event. How do I present my membership information?

NAF events will need two pieces of information from you. The first will be your NAF login. The second is your NAF Membership Number. Make sure you give your NAF username and don't confuse it with a different username you may use on a different Blood Bowl website!

When are tournament results posted?

It's up to your region's Tournament Co-ordinator to facilitate tournament postings, typically it should happen within two or three weeks after a tournament. Tournaments must be entered in order so delays could happen if people are late.

How do I send in my tournament results?

Tournament results are submitted by the Regional Tournament Co-ordinator, so all you need to do is show up and play.

Is it allowed to have none-NAF players in a NAF Sanctioned Tournament? If yes, how are they treated?

Yes you can play non-NAF members. The game is not recorded, nor will it affect NAF rating. This is because, among other reasons, we have no means of recording the skill of a non-NAF coach.

Do only NAF tourneys count or any game against another NAF member?

Only games against NAF members at a NAF sanctioned tournament count for results at the present time.

I own several different teams. Will I have one ranking no matter how many races I play or a separate ranking for each race?

You have a seperate ranking for each race.

What are the different types of tournament styles?

Check out "How to Run a Successful Blood Bowl Tournament" in Sections for more info.

How is Coach Rating calculated?

Each coach starts with a Coach Rating of 150 for every official Blood Bowl roster. If you attend a NAF sanctioned event using a particular race, your NAF ranking for that race is then activated. When you win a game, you gain Coach Rating. When you lose a game your Coach Rating is reduced. The neat part is that your Coach Rating is adjusted based on the how tough the opponent was. For example, if you lost to a very good coach then you lose less Coach Rating than if you lost to a worse coach. If you play at NAF sanctioned tournaments, then the larger the tournament, the larger the potential change in your CR.

No, really, how is Coach Rating calculated?

Coach rating is calculated by a complex formula and isn't for the weak of heart. It's based on the ELO ranking system. Here is the formula as it stands: Win Probability = 1/(10^((Opponent???s Rating ??? Your Rating)/150) + (( Opponent's TR - Your TR)/70)))+ 1) This probability is then used to recalculate each player???s rating after the match. In the equation below, players receive 1 point if they win the match, 0 if they lose, and 0.5 for a draw. Players??? new ratings are determined as follows: Player???s New Rating = Player ???s Old Rating + (K-Value * (Scoring Points ??? Player???s Win Probability)) The number of NAF coaches in the tournament determines K Value in this equation. The formula is: K value = sqaure(Number of NAF coaches) * 2 Example: Bud, Lizardmen ??? 150 CR, 100 TR John, Orcs ??? 150 CR, 100 TR People in the tournament ??? 24 Bud defeats John: Win probability for Bud = 1/(10^((150-150)/150)+((100-100)/70))+1) = .5

Can you please tell me why my CR has dropped from 150 to 148.04 when my 3 rated games were a 2 - 0 loss, 2- 2 draw and a 2 - 0 win?

This is almost certainly because the person who beat you had a lower ranking than person you beat - so you lost more points than you gained.

If I use official GW/NAF sanctioned team profiles for the member of my Blood Bowl team, am I allowed to use any miniatures from any source/manufacturer to represent the members of my team, or am I limited to using Games Workshop produced miniatures only in NAF events?

Some tournaments require GW minatures (mainly the ones run by GW), most tournaments do not. The NAF sanctions both sorts of tournament. The NAF can sanction tournaments that don't follow the official rules - but this is down to the regional coordinators and tournament directors discretion. Only matches played with the races shown on this website can count for rankings.
